Morning mist and sunshine over Ludlow
This is Ludlow Castle in the morning sunshine, with a layer of mist lingering above the fields beyond it.
In the distance is Brown Clee, topped by Abdon Burf, which is the higher of its two summits.
I took this shot while standing on Whitcliffe Common, one of my favourite viewpoints in the whole of Shropshire.
The Common is all that remains of a much larger medieval common, which was used by local residents to graze livestock, gather fallen wood and quarry stone for many of the town’s buildings.
Whitcliffe later became a fashionable promenade overlooking the town and the River Teme, and it is still a valued recreational facility where people can walk and enjoy the wonderful views.
It is maintained by the Friends of Whitcliffe Common in close conjunction with the leaseholders, Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
