Timeless scene at sunrise in Clun Valley
Sunrise over Titterstone Clee - this was my view looking out across the beautiful Clun Valley.
This timeless scene would have been familiar to travellers on the Clee-Clun Ridgeway, which was a trading route used by prehistoric man.
It was one of the many hill-top highways which were in use for thousands of years until the arrival of the Romans and their roads.
For this shot I was standing on the ramparts of Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort, which lies between Clun and Bishop’s Castle.
This ancient site covers more than six acres and is recognised as one of the best-preserved hill forts in the country.
It was once covered in trees, but a large-scale clearance was carried out by the Forestry Commission following a violent gale in 1978.
This revealed a series of ditches and ramparts that would have been seven metres high in places.
